“On Saturday, December 24th, at about 7:15 A.M., the Wareham Fire Department received a report of a fire in a mulch pile which reignited on a property off of County Road.

Once on scene, Firefighters worked for eight hours in frigid temperatures and utilized approximately 200,000 gallons of water to extinguish the mulch fire.

Due to the remote location of the burning pile, multiple mutual aid tanker trucks were requested and used to shuttle water to the scene.

Chief Kelley was the incident commander, and there were no injuries. The WFD greatly appreciates our mutual aid partners who assisted throughout the day.

A total of 29 Wareham career and call firefighters responded to the scene and covered the Main Street Fire station for any subsequent calls during those eight hours.

Apparatus that responded:
• Wareham Fire – Engine 1, Engine 5, Rescue 1, Breaker 401, Breaker 402, C1 (Chief John Kelley), C3 (Assistant Chief Mark Rogers) and multiple support vehicles
• Onset Fire – Tanker 1 and Deputy Chief Jeff Dias
• Marion Fire- Tanker 1, Chief Brian Jackvony and several Marion firefighters
• Rochester Fire – Tanker 198 and Deputy Chief Jeff Eldridge
• Carver Fire – Tanker 2 and Assistant Deputy Chief Jesse Boyle
• Massachusetts Department of Fire Services – Rehab truck.” -Wareham Fire Department.
