At approximately 2:00am, New Bedford Police received a report of a car accident with three people fleeing from one of the cars involved.

Police and Fire Departments, along with EMS units responded to Coggeshall Street next to the Golden Greek Restaurant, to find a small SUV that had apparently stopped at a red light, and was rear-ended by a sedan that had significant front-end damage.

Eyewitnesses told police that three people – two males and one female – fled the scene immediately after the impact.

The three who fled the scene left behind a fourth male occupant, who was incapacitated and unconscious. He was taken by New Bedford EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
