For weeks the New Bedford Guide inboxes have been getting peppered by people who are excited about the idea of the city having its very own “Ollie’s Bargain Outlet” which describes itself as “America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise & excess inventory!”

For those of us who are a bit longer in the tooth, think Building 19 or Benny’s.

If for some reason you are unfamiliar with both Building 19 and Ollie’s, their popularity is due to maing available the same things you would buy at big box chains but discounted by as much as 70%. Another factor in their popularity is their frequent stocking of inventory – on any given day they get a tractor-trailer of new things that hit their shelves.

Another great aspect of the Ollie’s locations is that like Benny’s they stock seasonally. Just before winter arrives, you’ll find all sorts of ice scrapers, a variety of snow shovels, salt, etc. When spring arrives, you’ll see a ton of sport’s paraphenelia, swimming floaties, inflatable pools, and more.

Ollie’s is so excited for their Grand Opening that they even created a Facebook Page just for the special day. On the page they say, “Hey folks, we are opening our new store on Wednesday, July 31st at 9:00am in New Bedford. Find us off King’s Highway next to Dollar Tree in the old Shaw’s Grocery Store!

You’ll save up to 70% off the fancy stores’ prices on brand-name food, housewares, flooring, books, clothing, bed & bath, toys and so much more! We’ve got items of all description…and some beyond description!”

If you are military Ollie’s offers a “Military Appreciation Day” on the first Tuesday of every month. All active duty military veterans a their dependents get 10% off of one entire purchase.
