On May Sunday 15, the First Unitarian Church in New Bedford will welcome Ralph Waldo Emerson re-enactor Wendell Refior for Emerson Sunday.

Mr. Refior will be delivering the sermon as Emerson at the church service at 11:00 am, with a luncheon to follow. There will also be a short series of lectures beginning at 1:30. Dr. Fred Gifun will discuss the Quaker schism of the 1820’s and Emerson’s connection to the church, where he served as minister briefly in 1833-34. Local historian Bob Maker will give a short talk about Emerson’s secular lectures in New Bedford. Wendell Refior will give the final presentation/discussion, entitled, Human Culture: Emerson’s Emphasis on the Ideal.

The church is asking for a $10.00 donation for the lectures, but the service and lunch are free. All are welcome to attend.
