New Bedford Repeat Drug Dealer Sentenced to Prison

A 23-Year-Old New Bedford repeat drug dealer was sentenced to serve two to three-and-a-half years in state prison last week after being convicted of once again dealing narcotics in the city, District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Jovani Abreu-Garcia pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to indictments charging him with trafficking in excess of 18 grams of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute suboxone.

On February 17, 2017, after a lengthy investigation, New Bedford Police executed a search warrant at the defendant’s home on Spooner Street.

In the house, They found 21 grams of suspected cocaine and numerous tablets of suboxone. They also found a digital scale, cut corner baggies, letters of standing and packaging.

The defendant has previously served jail time for conviction on firearm and drug dealing charges.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Renee Dupuis.

“Despite a prior conviction, the defendant continues to sell drugs that contribute to the drug epidemic that negatively impacts our communities,” District Attorney Quinn said.
