New Bedford police have arrested a man with an extensive arrest history on multiple charges.

On January 25, 2022, just before 5 a.m., officers responded to the area of Penniman Street and Summer Street for a report of a man trying to break into vehicles.

The man, identified as Dennis Rose, 36, of 534 Union Street, was found by officers in a Red Toyota that was reported stolen on December 25, 2021, and had been involved in an incident in Dartmouth where a BOLO was issued due to the vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed towards New Bedford.

When officers attempted to talk to Rose, he fled the scene nearly striking one officer. He then crashed into a passing vehicle on County Street. After a brief foot chase ending on Clark Street, Rose was arrested and charged with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, trespassing, leaving the scene of property damage, a warrant arrest, and carrying of certain weapons or instruments on a person.

Rose has convictions for a variety of offenses including armed robbery, firearm possession, and narcotics distribution. He was last convicted of breaking into a motor vehicle in November of 2019.
