New Bedford Police arrest man with loaded gun at the scene of north end stabbing

New Bedford Police officers arrested a man with a loaded Glock handgun at the scene of a stabbing in the north end of New Bedford. The NBPD released a statement following the incident.

“On November 7th, at around 9 PM, north-end units responded to the area of the Collette St./Ashley Blvd. intersection regarding a male who had been stabbed. An adult male victim was soon located who had sustained non-life-threatening stabbing injuries.

While investigating this incident, Officers Eric Boulay and Jack Cordeiro detained a male who was attempting to leave the scene. He was identified as Mr. VICTOR ABRAHAM RODRIGUEZ ORTIZ, 22, New Bedford. ORTIZ was found to be in possession of a loaded Glock handgun. He was placed into custody and taken to headquarters where he was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

The victim of the stabbing was transported to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. He was not forthcoming with any information; however, detectives are continuing to investigate. He is expected to recover.”
