“Group A firefighters were kept busy last night responding to three separate fire incidents.

The first one occured at National Lumber when when an electrically pwered forklift battery and charging system caught fire. A cleaning crew discovered the fire and called 911. Crews extinguished the fire and removed the forklift from the building. They remained on scene for approximately two hours.

At 0049 hrs, 911 calls were received for a reported structure fire at 88 Princeton Street. When crews arrived they reported a large body of fire extending from the second floor front porch. Engine 8 initially used their deck gun to knock down the fire extending from the front porch and followed with an interior attack on the fire which extended into the second floor apartment of this two story wood frame dwelling.

This structure is a two family residence and the American Red Cross assisted six displaced residents. The cause of the fire appears to be discarded smoking material. Crews were on scene for over two hours.

Finally, crews responded to ABC Disposal located at 1245 Shawmur Avenue at 0500 hrs for a reported fire. A fire originated in a large grinding machine which had to be partially disassembled by ABC personnel in order for firefighters to completely extinguish the fire. Companied remained on scene for over an hour.”
