The City of New Bedford is pleased to announce the grand opening of the New Bedford Winter Farmers Market! Fresh, locally grown produce, chicken, eggs, grass-fed beef, jams, honey, baked goods, soaps, dog treats and more will now be available for purchase throughout the winter months!

The market will officially open on Saturday, December 3 and will be open every first and third Saturday of the month from 10am – 1pm.  It will be located in the Hallway of the Bristol Building in downtown New Bedford (750 Purchase St.), between Green Bean and Travessia Winery.

Similar to the regular New Bedford Farmers Market, customers may use cash, credit/debit or SNAP and will find an array of items to purchase. Vendors to date include Ashley’s Produce, Buzzards Bay Bee Company, D’s Lectables, Everlasting Travels Body Care, La Rhonda’s Catering, Passion for Paws, Silverbrook Farm, Stony Creek Farm, Wyandotte Farm.

“We are so excited to be able to offer the farmers market on a year-round basis,” said Kim Ferreira, Director of Mass in Motion New Bedford. “The Winter Farmers Market is a one-stop shop for residents and visitors to purchase top-quality, local foods and goods and it will be a great addition to the vibrant and growing downtown business district.”

Buying local foods and other local products benefits the local economy and the environment. According to Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture, “If every household in Massachusetts spent $20 more on local food per month (with no reductions in other purchases), $574,653,720 more local income would be generated per year and 9,270 local jobs would be created in the state.”

Mass in Motion is a statewide movement led by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and supported locally by the Office of Mayor Jon Mitchell, that helps local communities increase opportunities for residents to eat better and move more in the places they live, learn, work, and play.
