New Bedford emergency personnel respond to car accident on Rt. 18

Last night New Bedford EMS, Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of an accident on Route 18N.

Upon arrival, a damaged gray Honda sedan was resting in the island divider between north and south lanes of traffic near the Union Street intersection. The debris field was strewn across approximately 25′.

Preliminary investigation suggest the sedan for reasons unknown jumped the median and struck a tree planter before coming to a stop in the island. Recovery grews were on scene for an hour as they towed the vehicle and cleaned to road enough to allow all lanes to reopen.

Because this is a developing story, the status of the occupant or occupants is unknown. More information will be added as it is confirmed.
