Middleborough Police charge elementary school staff member following incident

“Chief Joseph Perkins reports that the Middleborough Police Department is seeking to charge an elementary school staff member with assault and battery as a result of an incident that occurred at Mary K. Goode Elementary School.

On Thursday, Jan. 5, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Middleborough Police received reports of an incident at the Mary K. Goode Elementary School.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a fifth grade student was allegedly assaulted by a part-time cafeteria monitor. The suspect is not a teacher at the school.

The student was evaluated by the school nurse and the student’s parents were immediately notified of the incident.

Middleborough Police are summonsing the suspect to appear in Wareham District Court as they seek a charge of assault and battery. The suspect will not be identified unless and until the court approves the charge.

The suspect was immediately placed on leave by Middleborough Public Schools following the incident.

These are all allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.”
