Closed New Bedford gas station catches fire on Thursday morning

Thursday morning at 9:30am, multiple 911 calls were received reporting a fire at 7-Eleven located at 1024 Cove Road. Engine 6 and Ladder 3 reported a large volume of fire extending from a doorway on the southeast corner of the building. Crews extinguished the fire while opening up the roof and front overhang preventing fire extension.

Three engines, two ladders, and both command units responded to the fire. The building is being renovated and is currently unoccupied. There were no firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit, City of New Bedford Police Department, and the MA State Fire Marshals Office.

New Bedford EMS, NBEMA, NBPD, and the Special Signal Fire Association / Providence Canteen provided assistance on scene.
