Sunday, February 9th, from 2:00 – 6 p.m.

Grow Education’s (Grow) mission is to cultivate edible schoolyards in the New Bedford public schools. Grow offers teachers the opportunity to engage and collaborate through retreats and workshops, focused on enhancing community partnerships as well as incorporating garden-based learning into curriculum. Through the creation of school-based gardens, we hope to increase accessibility to locally grown food and strengthen community collaboration.

Brooks Elementary School (one of two schools in the program this year) is hosting its first open to the public workshop, focused on creating their outdoor classroom/community garden. This workshop aims to engage the school community in the planning process of the garden. During this workshop we will seek input from neighbors, teachers and students. We hope to create a list of desired produce to grow and gather ideas for artistic elements to be incorporated into the garden design. We are pleased have two local farmers in attendance who will act as growing consultants throughout the year.

The workshop is scheduled to be held on Tuesday January 21st, 2014 from 3:30-4:30pm. Public is welcome.
