“Andrea Desilets is an excellent role model and student,” said Peter Shaughnessy, President/Principal of Bishop Stang High School.

Bishop Stang High School, a diocesan, co-educational, college preparatory school located on the Southcoast, has announced that Bishop Stang Senior Andrea Desilets has been named one of the candidates for the 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates are selected from nearly 3.4 million graduating seniors.

“Andrea Desilets is an excellent role model and student,” said Peter Shaughnessy, President/Principal of Bishop Stang High School. “Andrea has consistently demonstrated exceptional academic performance, co-curricular involvement and character during her time at Bishop Stang, and exemplifies the very attributes of a U.S. Presidential Scholar.”

Andrea is one of 3,000 candidates selected for their exceptional performance on either the College Board SAT or ACT assessments. In addition, each Chief State School Officer (CSSO) was invited to nominate three male and three female candidates, based on their outstanding scholarship, residing in the CSSO’s jurisdiction. Further consideration is based on the students’ essays, self-assessments, descriptions of activities, school recommendations and school transcripts. The Commission on Presidential Scholars makes the final selection of Scholars. One young man and one young woman will be selected from each state with 15 students-at-large, and up to 20 students from creative and performing arts. The U.S. Department of Education will announce the Scholars in May.

Andrea Desilets is a resident of Little Compton, Rhode Island. She has received multiple acceptances from colleges and is waiting for all her acceptances packages to be in before making her final decision.
