40-year-old wanted New Bedford man captured; allegedly in possession of loaded gun, narcotics

“NEW BEDFORD – Narcotics detectives have arrested a wanted man and found him to have a gun and narcotics in the process.

On the evening of June 12, 2024, Detectives Matthew Couture and Jonathan Miranda were operating in the north-end sector of the city when they observed a vehicle being operated by a male with an active warrant. He was identified as Mr. JONATHAN MARTINEZ, 40, of New Bedford.

Upon stopping the vehicle, MARTINEZ exited and was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed MARTINEZ to have a loaded 9 mm firearm in his center console for which he had no license. He was also found to have a baggie of “crack” cocaine in his pocket.

MARTINEZ was taken into custody and charged with carrying a loaded firearm, possession of crack cocaine, and his original warrant.
