25th Annual Mr. Whaler competition set for tonight at 7pm

Twenty New Bedford High School seniors will vie for the title of Mr. Whaler on Saturday, February 11, for the 25th Annual Mr. Whaler competition.

The event begins at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. in the Bronspiegel Auditorium at NBHS, 230 Hathaway Boulevard.

The Mr. Whaler Pageant will feature casual wear and swimwear competitions, a talent show, formal wear, and finalists’ questions and answers.

“We are looking forward to crowning our 25th Mr. Whaler in a tradition that staff, students and our full school community come together to enjoy every year,” said Headmaster Bernadette Coelho. “We hope the community will come take part in an event that draws camaraderie, laughs and talent through the evening.”

Tickets are $10 at the door and proceeds support New Bedford High School Class of 2017 activities, including senior prom.

2017 contestants are Terence Flood, Jonathan Furtado, Jordan Boulay, Chandler Kuehne, Corey Medeiros, Logan Avellar, Michael Chang, Eric McIntire, Julian Lopes, Zachary Branco, Alex Lavalley, Ivan Pires, Antonio Rodriguez, Steven Torres, Johari Rosa, Michael Williams, Demitry Travassos, Nigel Wicherski, Eathan-Jorge Faria, and Douglas Inestroza

Mr. Whaler 2016, Ian Dumas and his escort, Paige Aviza. 1st Runner-up Trevor Green, 2nd Runner-up Miguel Nunes.

Mr. Whaler 2017 is sponsored by Slade Formal Wear, Rob’s Limousine Service, Hollywood Glow Tanning, Garlington Florist, No Problemo’s, Ma Raffa’s, Mare Studio and Gallery, Subway, and 99 Restaurant.
