17-year old charged with carrying loaded gun in New Bedford

A teen was taken into custody over the weekend for possession of a handgun.

On Friday, August 11th, gang detectives assigned to the “Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau”, were conducting surveillance in the south-end sector. At around 9:30 PM, the detectives conducted a traffic stop on Dartmouth St. in the area of Rockdale Ave.

During this stop, a juvenile passenger attempted to flee the scene before being successfully secured by the detectives. During the search that followed, the juvenile 17-year old was found to have a 9 mm handgun in his possession that was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

The juvenile was taken into custody, as was the operator of the vehicle, who was identified as Mr. Gerron harper, 29, of Worcester. Harper was found to have been operating the vehicle with a suspended license. The juvenile has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition without a license.

The arresting officer was Detective Nathaniel Almeida.
