Lakeville Firefighters battle car, structure fire near Loon Pond

“Outside fire on Rustic Drive. Multiple calls came in reporting a large column of smoke in the area of Loon Pond.

Responders found a large outside fire behind a Rustic Drive home. The fire destroyed at least one membrane building and an antique vehicle.

Staffing matters! At the time of the fire, a staffing recall was in place due to multiple medical emergencies. Ambulances 2 and 3 had just returned to Town from the hospital and a Middleborough ambulance had handled an additional call. The fire was reported just as supplemental staffing was about to be released. Nine firefighters responded to the fire on the initial call.

Thank you to Middleborough Fire Department for providing station coverage during the fire. Thank you to Lakeville Police Department for assistance with locating the fire.”-Lakeville Fire Department.

  1. Staffing matters? This is just another example of proof that a Countywide Fire/Rescue Department needs to be established! How lucky they were to have the extra manpower immediately available! Countywide would mean adequate manpower responding at all times, not like this, when they just happened to be there!
