The New Bedford Health Department will conduct an emergency preparedness drill on the morning of February 21, 2013 at Normandin Middle School during the week the school is closed for winter vacation. A previous drill was conducted in March 2012 at the Roosevelt Middle School. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health requires communities to conduct periodic exercises in accordance with Homeland Security emergency preparedness guidelines.

The drill is a collaborative effort by the New Bedford Health Department, New Bedford Public Schools, New Bedford First Responders (Fire, Police, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management Agency) with assistance from the Department of Public Facilities and Community Services.

“This exercise is an opportunity for the New Bedford Health Department to prepare and practice and in advance so that we can respond effectively in the event of a true public health emergency,” said Dr. Brenda Weis, Director of Public Health.
