Women’s Center & #VoicesHavePower host events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Women’s Center is participating in the #VoicesHavePower campaign, with community events and media campaigns throughout the month.

Wednesday, October 8
7:00pm
Tree Lighting at New Bedford City Hall
A tree lighting program will take place in front of New Bedford City Hall at 7pm. Mayor Jon Mitchell will read a proclamation designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month before lighting a tree with purple lights to support victims of domestic violence and their families.

White Ribbon Pledge Event

Door Prize • Raffles • Cash Bar • Entertainment by Sean Carney

Free event to celebrate the men and women who take a stand against
domestic violence. Men will have the opportunity to sign the White
Ribbon Pledge.

Tuesday, October 28
6:00pm
Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil
The public is invited to gather on the steps of New Bedford City Hall
at 6:00pm and march in silence to the Unitarian Church (corner of 8th
and Union Street), where a program to remember victims of domestic
violence homicide will be held, including the Clothesline Project.

2 out of 3 women in the United States will never be assaulted or abused by a partner.
