Wareham, Plymouth Fire Departments, Onset Forestry, respond to multiple brush fires

“On Thursday, April 20th, shortly after 2:00 p.m. regional fire towers spotted a large smoke in the area of Agawam Road in Wareham.

Multiple brush fire trucks were dispatched to the area, including Breakers 401, 403, 404, from Wareham Fire, along with Onset Forestry 149 and Tanker 1. Incident Commander Chief John Kelley activated the “Myles Standish Compact”, which brought in additional resources, including forestry equipment from the Plymouth Fire Department.

As a result of early reporting from the fire towers, and an aggressive response from the dozens of firefighters on the scene, the fire was held to just over two acres.

Given the high fire danger day, the situation could have been much worse. Deputy Chief Mark Rogers, along with Onset Fire Chief Jeff Osswald assisted Chief Kelley. OFD Deputy Chief Howard Andersen was placed in charge of coordinating water supply for the fire apparatus.

Wareham Police Lt. John Gerard responded with the WPD droan to assist in locating the remote fire and give progress reports. There were no injuries.”-Wareham Fire Department.
