New Beford police arrest man with stolen gun, crack cocaine

Last night at approximately 10pm members of the Gang Unit observed a vehicle being driven in reverse and fishtail in the snow on Acushnet Ave. near Rockland St.

The vehicle also had an expired inspection sticker. During the stop, a struggle ensued with the front passenger and he was taken into custody and a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter was found on his person. It was loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition.

The handgun was reported stolen in Mashpee, Ma. and the suspect does not possess a license to carry firearms. Also in the passenger side door handle a small amount of crack cocaine was seized.

Scheduled to be arraigned this morning on drug and gun charges, as well as resisting arrest; Jose Mendez-Garcia age 24 of Linden Ct. New Bedford.
