One of New Bedford’s oldest Portuguese Restaurants, M&C Cafe, is closing its doors for good

After decades of serving mouth-watering Portuguese-American cuisine, M&C Cafe and Catering on Belleville Ave., is closing their doors for good, and Saturday is your last chance to visit.

Colloquially called “M&C’s” the eatery was a favorite spot for many locals to get some of the best carne de espeto on the South Coast since 1967. M&C’s was known for its affordable prices, generous portions and friendly service.

The owners are retiring and moving onto their next phase of life and the former owners of Portas Da Cidade in Westport will fill the void. After what is expected to be a short turnover period, the site will return to churning out everyone’s favorite Portuguese classics.

For those of you who have been visiting M&C’s through the years and concerned about the change, don’t be: the new owners purchased the original recipes.
