New Bedford’s Alleged Serial Vandal “Dex” Placed Under Arrest

New Bedford patrol officers have arrested a local man for a series of spray-painting incidents in which he used the moniker, “DEX”.

During the early morning hours of July 27th, Ofc. Krista-Jean Forand responded to the Ash St. Jail in response to several personal as well as official vehicles that had been spraypainted. In recent days, there have been numerous reports of similar vandalism on different houses, vehicles, and street signs. In many of these instances, “DEX” was a commonality.

As a result of the information cultivated by officers assigned to the patrol division, “DEX” was identified as Isaiah Malik Poindexter, 22, of 117 Cedar St. Ofc. Forand located POINDEXTER in front of his residence and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, Poindexter was found to have white paint stains on his hands which match the color of the spray-painting on the vehicles at the jail.

Detective Roberto Dacunha has been investigating the past incidents further and additional charges against Poindexter are likely.

“These instances of vandalism are an outrageous nuisance to the many property owners who have had their homes and vehicles senselessly defaced. The suspect used the cover of darkness to make his way through the west end and wreak havoc. I’m grateful for the work of the patrol officers in identifying and taking him into custody, and for the detectives who are investigating previous occurrences to ensure that he is held accountable for each of them,” said Chief Paul Oliveira

Anyone with additional information concerning this vandalism is encouraged to contact either Det. Dacunha or Det. Sgt. James Estrella at 508-991-6300 EXT. #79519.
