New Bedford police arrest wanted man, repeat offender with gun

“On November 10, detectives assigned to the “Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau” observed ZAHKUAN BAILEY-SWEETING, 22, in the area of Hazard court.

BAILEY-SWEETING was known to the detectives to have two active warrants for his arrest for a variety of charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, extortion, witness intimidation and felony larceny.

Upon noticing detectives approaching, BAILEY-SWEETING immediately fled into a nearby residence in which he did not live. Detectives entered the residence and located BAILEY-SWEETING inside. He was found to be in possession of a loaded, Glock 43
9mm pistol. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without license, breaking and entering and trespassing. BAILEY-SWEETING had been previously convicted of carrying a firearm in 2018, making this a subsequent charge.
