Massachusetts supply chain disruptions include production of Girl Scout cookies

If you’re a member of one of the many Facebook groups you may have noticed an uptick in posts asking about how to pick up some Girl Scout cookies. You may have also noticed that there are no girls selling these heavenly delights in the usual spots, such as area supermarkets.

The cause? Serious disruptions in the nation’s supply chain and production and Massachusetts is no exception. That means many of the things we’ve perhaps taken for granted are harder to get because factories may simply not be able to receive one or more ingredients for their products, there is a delay, or there aren’t enough truckers available to make the deliveries.

Specifically, this means the manufacturers of Girl Scout Cookies, ABC Bakers, are experiencing serious delays in their production. These delays will last long enough to affect the availability of Girl Scout Cookies for the remainder of their cookie program, which will end in Massachusetts on Friday, March 11.

“ABC Bakers is not able to provide enough Girl Scout Cookies to meet the needs of our members, and we must adjust our current cookie inventory to ensure equitable distribution between troops,” said Stacy Wilbur of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.

“Our Girl Scouts have been actively selling Girl Scout Cookies since December 7, and there are still plenty of cookies to be sold before the sale ends. While our sale is winding down, these disruptions are severely impacting our sister Girl Scout councils—some of which are just getting started with their cookie program.
