Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Team responds to Wareham Police Station

On Sunday, March 1st, at 5:00 p.m. an individual entered the police station with a bottle containing an unknown liquid which had been located at a residence in Wareham.

Furthermore, the bottle appeared distorted from heating. Sergeant Kevin Reilly directed the person to put the bottle outside the station, secured the area, and summoned the Wareham Fire Department for assistance.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Team responded, as well as the Massachusetts State Police Clandestine Lab Enforcement unit. Multiple other first responders converged at the police station, as did Town Administrator Derek Sullivan, Director of Public Health Robert Ethier, Health Inspector Patrick MacDonald, and Police Chief John Walcek.

After testing was conducted on the liquid, it was determined to be non-hazardous. At about 7:20 p.m. the front lobby of the police station was reopened for public access.
