Massachusetts commuters spot “Mallory” the emu, gallavanting around streets of Brockton

At approximately, 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, the Brockton Police Department was bombarded with calls reporting that an emu was running loose through the Pine Street and Perry Avenue area of the city.

Yes, an emu.

Many commuters and surveillance cameras caught the emu on the lam. The owner of the emu, Lee Flaherty, started seeing posts on social media and instantly recognized the emu as his ‘Mallory,’ who had apparently escaped from her enclosure. Flaherty’s guess was that she was likely spooked by an animal and leaped over the enclosure’s 6-foot fence.

Working with the Brockton Police, Flaherty was able to capture ‘Mallory’ and bring her home relatively unharmed – only sustaining a minor scrape.
