“12/18/2022 3:40 PM — Cohasset Police have issued a shelter in place for anyone living within a quarter mile of Norfolk Road and Cushing Road in Cohasset.

There is currently a police operation taking place. Police are on scene in the area. An update will be posted here with more information as it becomes available.

12/18/2022 6:50 PM — Today at about 2:30 p.m. a male known to the department entered the lobby of the police station. He had a gas chainsaw with him. He attempted to cut through a security door in the lobby of the police station.

There was a civilian desk attendant on duty at the time. The desk attendant was able to barricade herself and call officers to assist her. The male fled the scene he was tracked back to his house. He is currently barricaded inside the house.

There are two young children in the house under five years of age. We currently have assets here from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council and surrounding jurisdictions that are attempting to talk him out of the house peacefully and de-escalate the situation.

This is a very active scene and negotiators are here. Police are trying to work through this to try and bring this to a peaceful resolution.
