Local man mourns loss of Labrador best friend, remains grateful for all things New Bedford

“Ya know, New Bedford may have its ups and downs, but tonight, I am ever thankful to the fishermen that miraculously still make the profession work around here.

I am ever thankful that I have a dock and ships to sit by, whilst I mourn the loss of my labrador 🐕💔…

Being hundreds of miles away from my puppy (he lived with my dad in my childhood home), I can’t have a proper funeral for her. So, I made do with the most serene place I know in town.

It never gets easier. Especially when my puppy was more human than any other pet I had. More human than most humans I know. I can’t pretend to not sit here dying inside. But I must press on. I have people depending on me. I have a wife, depending on me. My puppy girl wouldn’t have wanted me to give up.

I pray this place never becomes some unnecessary shopping mall or something similar.

Thank you again, New Bedford’s finest. You are the soul of this city. 💙”-Andrew Fleming.
