Downtown New Bedford Bookstore Seized by Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue

Multiple official Massachusetts Department of Revenue posters were placed in the windows of “Subtext Book Shop” located at 209 Union Street in New Bedford. According to these posters the property has been seized for nonpayment of taxes, and is now in the possession of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This does not necessarily mean the book shop is closed forever, according to The Massachusetts Department of Revenue; A taxpayer may redeem property at any time prior to sale by paying the full amount owed which includes all expenses incurred while preparing for the sale. Real property may be redeemed up to 180 days after the sale has taken place.

We will continue to follow this story as this is a popular book shop located in the heart of downtown New Bedford.
