Summer-Long Yoga Series at Ned’s Point Lighthouse

Yoga is known to be beneficial for body, mind, and spirit. However, for some people, yoga is not accessible. At Project Wheel House, the mission is to bring yoga to populations who often lack access to this form of mindfulness and exercise, but who would benefit greatly from adding yoga into their lives. If you are a yoga lover, you can help further this mission by participating in “20 in 20”, a 20-week long, outdoor yoga series hosted at Ned’s Point Light in Mattapoisett starting on Saturday, May 25th.

The yoga series will be called, “20 in 20”, with the goal of raising $20,000 over the course of 20 weeks, in order to “keep the wheel in Project Wheel House” turning. Attendees are asked to make a donation between $10 and $20 as they join other yoga enthusiasts of all ages and levels each Saturday morning at scenic Ned’s Point Light. The sessions begin at around 8:15 in the morning and end at 9:30 a.m.

Project Wheel House is a local non-profit organization founded in 2016, and since its inception has worked with numerous at-risk populations to bring the healing powers of yoga into the lives of those who may not have been introduced to it otherwise. Project Wheel House has worked with survivors of domestic violence, inmates, LGBTQ youth, and urban children throughout the SouthCoast region. As founder Jessica Webb describes it, “Meditation and yoga are practical skills that transform lives, but not everyone can get to a yoga studio, so we’re bringing the studio to them”.

Project Wheel House’s current partners include The Women’s Center, The Southcoast LGBTQ Network, YouthBuild NB, YWCA Girls Exclusive, Doodles Creative, and 3rdEye Unlimited.

For more details about the event, including the full schedule of Saturday morning yoga sessions and instructors, please visit: www.projectwheelhouse.org/20-in-20. Project Wheel House is a graduate of the Summer 2017 EforAll Southcoast entrepreneurship accelerator.

Hollywood medium Tyler Henry brings new live show “Life Lessons I’ve Learned From The Departed” to the Zeiterion, June 20

Zeiterion Performing Arts Center is pleased to present Tyler Henry with his new live show “Life Lessons I’ve Learned From The Departed” on Thursday, June 20, at 8:00 p.m. The star of E!’s “Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry” will discuss his unique gift and how it affects his everyday life, and it will include a multi-media video presentation, live readings, and audience Q&A. Tickets range from $59 to $79 and can be purchased by calling 508-994-2900, online at https://zeiterion.org/, or at the Zeiterion Box Office at 684 Purchase Street in New Bedford. Group sales of 10 tickets or more are available by calling 508-997-5664 x123.

Growing up in a small town in central California, Tyler began receiving intuitive mental images when he was only 10 years old with the foretelling of his grandmother’s death. Intimate communication with a deceased loved one evolved into “reading” classmates, and Tyler soon found himself the victim of schoolyard bullying. Between speaking to the dead and predicting people’s futures, and juggling math homework and gym class, life for a teenage medium in a small town became anything but easy.

After a series of life-changing events, including a near-death experience, Tyler recognized that his passion, calling and life purpose was to bring clarity and closure to those he was privileged to read.

Word of his talents spread so quickly that 22-year-old Tyler has relocated to Los Angeles and now stars in the mega hit TV series “Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry” on E! Television Network now in its 4th season. In each episode the young medium sits down and has one-on-one readings with Hollywood’s top celebrities. His celebrity includes Jim Parsons, Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres, Allison Janney, Kris Jenner, Krissey Metz, Bobby Brown, Portia de Rossi, Mel B, Lil’ Kim, Dr. Drew, Tom Arnold, Ru Paul, Khloe and Kim Kardashian, Jamie Pressley, Jewel, and among many more.

Tyler recently added “best-selling author” to his impressive resume with Between Two Worlds, a memoir about his journey in Hollywood and as a medium.

Folk Icon Arlo Guthrie returns to the Zeiterion to perform “Alice’s Restaurant,” May 31

“A great reminder of just how effective a bit of absurdity can be when it comes to combating serious issues.”Rolling Stone

“The strength of ‘Alice’s Restaurant’ is its feel of truth — and how it speaks that truth to power.”Washington Post

Zeiterion Performing Arts Center welcomes legendary Arlo Guthrie back to its historic stage Friday, May 31, at 8:00 p.m. The folk music icon returns with “Alice’s Restaurant – Back By Popular Demand Tour” that coincides with the 50th anniversary of the feature film “Alice’s Restaurant.” Tickets range from $35 to $55 and can be purchased by calling 508-994-2900, online at https://zeiterion.org/, or at the Zeiterion Box Office at 684 Purchase Street in New Bedford. Group sales of 10 tickets or more are available at a discount by calling 508-997-5664 x123.

When Arlo took to the road to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of his seminal song “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree,” he was incredibly moved by the feedback from enthusiastic fans. Originally released in 1969, “Alice’s Restaurant” starred Arlo as himself, his first foray into acting, and was directed by famed director Arthur Penn. It was filmed in the Berkshires, Arlo’s own backyard, recreating some of the events that launched the Massacree, while adding a good dose of fiction. Ultimately, the movie garnered a “Best Director” Oscar Award nomination for Penn. Of the film, Roger Ebert said, “It is also good to have Arlo Guthrie himself, who is quiet and open and good on camera… ‘Alice’s Restaurant’ …becomes a synthesis of Arlo’s spirit and Arthur Penn’s tact.”

“I didn’t think I was gonna live long enough to have to learn ‘Alice’s Restaurant’ again,” Arlo says with a smile. “It was a quirky kinda thing to begin with. Nobody writes an 18-minute monologue expecting fame and fortune. The initial success of the song really took me by surprise more than anyone else. The fact that I have contended with it for five decades either by having to learn it again or by not doing it, has been an interesting balancing act. I’m surely looking forward to it again being a centerpiece of my live repertoire.”

Currently on the road for the last year presenting the Re:Generation Tour, Arlo along with his son Abe will be joined onstage on the forthcoming tour with long time collaborators Terry “A La Berry” Hall (drums), Steve Ide (guitar, vocals) and Carol Ide (vocals, percussion) of his former acclaimed band Shenandoah.

In July 2017 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the “Summer of Love” and the original release of Arlo’s debut album, Rhino Records re-released the full mono version of the album Alice’s Restaurant on 180 gram vinyl. In March 2018, the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress inducted “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” into the registry honoring the recording for its cultural, historic and aesthetic importance to the American soundscape.

Folk songs enduring many decades of change only become classics when storylines remain just as relevant today as they were when originally composed. “Alice’s Restaurant” is of this ilk; it’s now weaved into the fabric of American society. Fans have embraced “Alice’s Restaurant” as part of their annual Thanksgiving tradition, but also view it as one of the more pronounced “anti-stupid” rally songs. Every year, Arlo receives handfuls of letters from Vietnam vets and soldiers currently at war expressing their heartfelt connection to the song. Today, times are eerily similar to the mid-60’s, with unpopular wars being fought far away from home, and soldiers finding ways to cope. Music is often the best medicine to soothe the soul. However listeners interpret the quintessential tune, we can be rest assured that people of all different walks of life come together singing that famous chorus, “You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant…”

“My name is Teddy Conseillant. I grew up in a very violent neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. My mother was a single parent and a prayer warrior. I remember being forced to go to church but I didn’t want anything to do with God. At age 13, I joined any gang and ran the streets for years. Gang banging was my life and but I didn’t do drugs because I was paranoid. When I was 19, a very close friend got shot twice in the chest right in front of me. He died in my arms. His death affected me greatly and I stopped caring about anything. My behavior became out of control.

My biological father was not a part of my life, but I always had a father. His name was Pastor Barry. I met him when I was ten years old. We became very close and he became my Pops. He adopted me into his family. He always tried to get me in church but it never worked. By the age of 22, I had three beautiful daughters and a very bad drinking habit. I chose the bottle over my daughters. I couldn’t stop drinking. My life was quickly becoming a mess. I didn’t know what to do.

I called Pops and told him that if I stayed on the streets I would die. He told me to come to Teen Challenge. Teen Challenge opened my eyes to the truth. Learning how to submit was a major part in my change and I quickly fell in love with Christ.

I had come into Teen Challenge a high school dropout, but I was able to get my high school diploma in Teen Challenge. Last January I started college at North Point Bible College. I couldn’t have done any this without Christ!” – Teddy
