Alma del Mar & Gallery X join forces to present exhibition of student artwork; ends Friday March 14

Alma del Mar Scholar Art Exhibition to Open at Gallery X

Gallery X is now hosting Alma del Mar’s first-ever public exhibition of student artwork. From now through Friday, March 14, the artwork of students of Alma del Mar Charter School is on display in the Frederick Douglass Gallery at Gallery X, 169 William St., New Bedford.

A closing reception will be held on Thursday, March 13 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM as part of AHA! Night. The reception will feature performances by Alma student musicians, a silent auction of scholar work, and light refreshments. The reception is free and open to the public.

Works on display includes fourth grade self-portraits in the style of Rembrandt van Rijn. In preparation for drawing from life, they drew from a series of still life vignettes focusing on crosshatching and value.

The show also features work by kindergarten students in the style of minimalist Agnes Martin and modern master Piet Mondrian. They completed these works as part of their exploration of the Elements of Design.
