ABWA to award $1,500 scholarship to local female student; Applications being accepted

Preliminary applications must be submitted to the ABWA SouthCoast Chapter by March 31, 2014

The SouthCoast Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association is offering a $1,500 scholarship, to be awarded to a deserving young woman in Bristol County, thanks to the generosity of the Stephen Bufton Memorial Fund. Each year, local chapters of ABWA provide scholarships to female students who will be attending accredited U.S. colleges, universities and community/vocational schools.

Applicants for the ABWA SouthCoast Scholarship must be female U.S. citizens seeking a baccalaureate degree or higher; enrolled in an accredited educational institution in the United States; and have completed at least 60 credit hours as of June 1, 2014 with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants must be residents of Bristol County, MA (although a residency waiver is available for family members of ABWA SouthCoast Chapter members).

Preliminary applications must be submitted to the ABWA SouthCoast Chapter by March 31, 2014, with final applications due online by June 1, 2014 at www.sbmef.org. A minimum of three (3) eligible applications are required in order for the scholarship to be awarded. The scholarship recipient will be notified by August 1, 2014.

SBMEF, ABWA’s national educational fund, is one of the most highly respected grant and scholarship funds in the country. For 60 years, ABWA has helped women achieve their business and professional success through educational scholarships. Since its inception, more than 16,000 women nationwide have been awarded more than 17 million dollars in scholarships.

The Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund is a 501 (c) 3 charitable trust and public foundation. It has the same tax status as public schools, churches and community funds. The fund is listed in the U.S. Internal Revenue Service “Cumulative List of Organizations” described in Section 170(c) of the IRS code of 1954 – revised Oct. 31, 1974.

ABWA SouthCoast is a chartered chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, whose purpose is to bring together business women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition.
