New Bedford Firefighters, EMS, deliver healthy, baby girl outside of Walgreens

“Yesterday afternoon at 3:10pm, Command Unit 2 and Engine 1 responded across the street from Fire Headquarters to Walgreen’s Pharmacy at 838 Pleasant Street for a female in active labor.

The crew of Engine 1 and Command Unit 2 assisted Mom in delivering a healthy baby girl. They suctioned and stimulated the baby and the crew of New Bedford EMS Medic 1 clamped and cut the umbilical cord. Paramedic 1 also assisted with care of the neonate and mother. A City of New Bedford Facilities/Infrastructure employee was on scene rendering aid to the mother until first responders arrived on scene.
