Just after 5 AM today an MSP cruiser and a contractor’s truck were hit by an impaired, wrong-way driver at a road construction detail on Route 3 southbound in Braintree.

Subsequent investigation by responding Troopers determined that the wrong-way driver, CHRISTOPHER FAY, 24, of Abington, was operating under the influence of alcohol.

FAY, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to South Shore Hospital. He is expected to be released from the hospital today.

The Trooper, a male, was not injured when his cruiser, a 2013 Ford Interceptor utility, was struck. However, a 53-year-old Stoughton man employed by the road contractor was injured when a work truck, a Chevrolet 4500 flatbed, was struck. The worker was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

FAY is being charged with the following offenses:

Operating under the influence of liquor;
Negligent operation;
Having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle; and
Wrong way violation.
The scene was cleared at 7:37 AM.
